Publication Ethics Statement

Biomedical Update is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics, research integrity, transparency, and academic excellence. The journal expects all participants in the publication process—including authors, reviewers, editors, and the publisher—to adhere to internationally recognized ethical principles and responsible research practices.

The journal follows the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing and applies rigorous editorial and peer-review procedures to ensure the quality, reliability, and integrity of the scholarly record.

Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting manuscripts to Biomedical Update must ensure that:

  • The submitted work is original, authentic, and has not been published previously or submitted simultaneously to another journal.
  • All listed authors have made substantial scholarly contributions to the research and have approved the final manuscript.
  • All sources of information are appropriately cited and referenced.
  • Data presented in the manuscript are accurate, complete, and honestly reported without fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate manipulation.
  • Any financial support, funding sources, or potential conflicts of interest are fully disclosed.
  • Research involving human participants or animals has received approval from an appropriate ethics committee and has been conducted in accordance with applicable ethical standards.
  • Informed consent has been obtained from research participants whenever required.
  • Authors promptly notify the editorial office if a significant error or inaccuracy is discovered after publication.

Responsibilities of Editors

Editors are responsible for:

  • Making editorial decisions based solely on the scientific quality, originality, significance, and relevance of submitted manuscripts.
  • Ensuring an impartial, confidential, and timely peer-review process.
  • Treating all manuscripts fairly without discrimination based on nationality, gender, ethnicity, institutional affiliation, or political or religious beliefs.
  • Avoiding conflicts of interest in editorial decision-making.
  • Preserving the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and reviewer identities.
  • Taking appropriate action when ethical concerns, misconduct, or publication malpractice are suspected.

Responsibilities of Reviewers

Peer reviewers are expected to:

  • Conduct objective, constructive, and unbiased evaluations.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding all submitted manuscripts.
  • Provide clear, evidence-based recommendations supported by scholarly reasoning.
  • Identify relevant published literature not cited by the authors where appropriate.
  • Declare any potential conflicts of interest and decline review assignments when impartiality cannot be maintained.
  • Complete reviews within the agreed timeframe.

Research Integrity

Biomedical Update does not tolerate:

  • Plagiarism
  • Self-plagiarism
  • Duplicate publication
  • Redundant publication
  • Data fabrication
  • Data falsification
  • Image manipulation intended to mislead
  • Citation manipulation
  • Authorship manipulation or guest authorship
  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest
  • Peer-review manipulation

Any allegation of research misconduct will be investigated thoroughly. Appropriate actions may include manuscript rejection, publication of corrections, article retraction, notification of authors' institutions, or other necessary editorial measures.

Plagiarism Screening

All submitted manuscripts are screened for originality using plagiarism detection software before peer review. Manuscripts containing substantial plagiarism, duplicate publication, or unethical text recycling may be rejected immediately.

Conflicts of Interest

Authors, reviewers, and editors must disclose any financial, personal, academic, institutional, or professional relationships that could influence the objectivity of the publication process. Where conflicts exist, appropriate measures will be taken to ensure an unbiased editorial decision.

Ethical Approval

Research involving human participants, animals, or identifiable personal data must include a statement confirming approval by an appropriate ethics committee or institutional review board, together with the approval number where applicable. Authors must also confirm that informed consent has been obtained when required.

Corrections and Retractions

The journal is committed to maintaining the integrity of the scholarly record. When significant errors or ethical concerns are identified, the journal may publish corrections, expressions of concern, retractions, or removals where appropriate. Such actions will be made transparently and in accordance with established editorial procedures.

Editorial Independence

Editorial decisions are made independently of the publisher, sponsors, advertisers, or funding organizations. Acceptance or rejection of manuscripts is based solely on scientific merit, ethical standards, methodological quality, and relevance to the journal's scope.
