Peer Review Process
Peer Review Policy
Biomedical Update operates a rigorous double-blind peer-review system to ensure the publication of high-quality, original, and scientifically sound research. The identities of both authors and reviewers remain confidential throughout the review process to promote impartiality and eliminate potential bias.
Initial Editorial Assessment
Upon submission, each manuscript undergoes a preliminary evaluation by the Editorial Office and the Editor-in-Chief or a designated Associate Editor. During this stage, the manuscript is assessed for:
- Relevance to the journal's aims and scope
- Originality and scientific significance
- Compliance with the journal's submission guidelines
- Ethical standards and research integrity
- Completeness of the submission
- Language quality and overall presentation
Manuscripts that do not meet these basic requirements may be returned to the authors for revision or rejected without external review.
Plagiarism Screening
Before being sent for peer review, all submissions are screened using plagiarism detection software. Manuscripts containing plagiarism, duplicate publication, excessive text similarity, or other forms of publication misconduct may be rejected immediately.
External Peer Review
Manuscripts that successfully pass the initial editorial assessment are assigned to at least two independent experts with relevant expertise in the subject area. Reviewers are selected based on their academic qualifications, research experience, and absence of conflicts of interest.
The reviewers evaluate manuscripts based on:
- Originality and novelty
- Scientific importance
- Research methodology
- Data analysis and interpretation
- Ethical compliance
- Quality of writing and presentation
- Validity of conclusions
- Relevance to the journal's scope
- Adequacy of references
Editorial Decision
After considering the reviewers' recommendations, the handling editor or Editor-in-Chief makes one of the following decisions:
- Accept without revision
- Minor Revision
- Major Revision
- Reject
Where reviewer opinions differ substantially, the editor may invite an additional independent reviewer before making a final decision.
Revision Process
Authors receiving revision requests should submit a revised manuscript together with a detailed point-by-point response explaining how each reviewer comment has been addressed. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation when necessary.
Final Decision
The final decision regarding publication rests solely with the Editor-in-Chief, based on reviewer reports, scientific merit, ethical considerations, and compliance with the journal's editorial standards.
Confidentiality
Editors and reviewers treat all submitted manuscripts as confidential documents. Manuscripts, supplementary materials, and reviewer reports are not disclosed to third parties except where required for editorial or ethical investigations.
Conflict of Interest
Editors and reviewers must declare any actual or potential conflicts of interest. Individuals with conflicts that could affect their impartiality will not participate in the review or editorial decision-making process.
Timeliness
Biomedical Update is committed to an efficient editorial process. While review times may vary depending on the availability of expert reviewers and the complexity of the manuscript, every effort is made to complete the peer-review process promptly while maintaining the highest standards of scientific quality.
Ethical Standards
The peer-review process is conducted fairly, objectively, and independently. Editorial decisions are based exclusively on scientific quality, originality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, and relevance to the journal's scope, without discrimination based on nationality, gender, ethnicity, institutional affiliation, or personal beliefs.
