Instructions for Authors

Biomedical Update welcomes the submission of original, high-quality manuscripts that contribute to the advancement of biomedical sciences, clinical medicine, pharmaceutical sciences, public health, and related disciplines. Manuscripts must present original work that has not been published previously and is not under consideration by another journal.

All submissions are evaluated through an initial editorial assessment followed by a rigorous double-blind peer-review process.

Types of Manuscripts

The journal accepts the following article types:

  • Original Research Articles
  • Systematic Reviews
  • Meta-Analyses

  • Letters to the Editor

Manuscript Preparation

Manuscripts should be prepared in clear, concise, and grammatically correct English.

General Format

  • Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx)
  • A4 page size
  • Times New Roman, 12-point font
  • Double line spacing
  • 5 cm (1 inch) margins on all sides
  • Continuous page numbering
  • Continuous line numbering is recommended

Manuscript Structure

Title Page

The title page should include:

  • Full article title
  • Running title (maximum 50 characters)
  • Full names of all authors
  • Institutional affiliations
  • ORCID iDs (recommended)
  • Corresponding author's name
  • Email address
  • Postal address
  • Telephone number (optional)

Abstract

Provide a structured abstract of 2000–3000 words containing:

  • Background
  • Methods
  • Results
  • Conclusion

Review articles may use an unstructured abstract.

Keywords

Provide 3–8 keywords using internationally recognized scientific terminology (e.g., MeSH terms where appropriate).

Main Text

Original Research Articles

The manuscript should generally contain:

  1. Introduction
  2. Materials and Methods
  3. Results
  4. Discussion
  5. Conclusion

Abbreviations

Spell out abbreviations at first mention.

Units

Use the International System of Units (SI Units).

References

Biomedical Update follows the Vancouver Citation Style.

References should:

  • Be numbered consecutively in the order cited.
  • Appear as superscript numbers or bracketed numbers in the text.
  • Include DOI whenever available.
  • Be accurate and complete.

Authors are responsible for verifying all references before submission.

Tables and Figures

Tables and figures should:

  • Be cited in numerical order.
  • Include descriptive titles.
  • Be submitted in editable or high-resolution format.
  • Not duplicate information already presented in the text.

Images should have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi.

Ethical Requirements

Research involving human participants must include:

  • Institutional Ethics Committee or IRB approval.
  • Ethics approval number where applicable.
  • Statement confirming informed consent.

Animal studies must comply with internationally accepted animal welfare guidelines.

Clinical trials should include registration information where applicable.

Authorship

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to:

  • Study conception or design.
  • Data acquisition, analysis, or interpretation.
  • Drafting or critical revision of the manuscript.
  • Approval of the final version.
  • Accountability for all aspects of the work.

All authors must satisfy the journal's authorship criteria.

Conflict of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial, institutional, or personal relationships that could influence the research.

If no conflicts exist, authors should state:

"The authors declare that they have no conflict of interest."

Funding

All financial support and funding sources must be disclosed.

If no funding was received, authors should state:

"This research received no external funding."

Data Availability Statement

Authors are encouraged to include a Data Availability Statement indicating where the data supporting the findings can be accessed or explaining any restrictions on availability.

Artificial Intelligence

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools must comply with the journal's Artificial Intelligence Policy.

Authors must disclose any substantive use of AI during manuscript preparation. AI systems cannot be listed as authors.

Plagiarism

All manuscripts are screened using plagiarism detection software.

Manuscripts containing plagiarism, duplicate publication, fabricated data, or other forms of research misconduct will be rejected.

Copyright and Licensing

Authors retain copyright of their work.

Accepted articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) license.

Open Access

Biomedical Update is a fully Open Access journal.

All published articles are freely accessible immediately upon publication without subscription or registration.

Article Processing Charge (APC)

An Article Processing Charge (APC) of USD 500 is payable only after acceptance of the manuscript.

No submission fee is charged.

Submission Checklist

Before submission, authors should ensure that:

  • The manuscript is original.
  • The work is not under consideration elsewhere.
  • All authors have approved the manuscript.
  • Ethical approval has been obtained where required.
  • References are complete and correctly formatted.
  • Figures and tables are properly prepared.
  • Conflict of interest disclosures are included.
  • Funding information is provided.
  • The manuscript complies with the journal's formatting requirements.

Editorial Decision

After peer review, one of the following decisions will be made:

  • Accept
  • Minor Revision
  • Major Revision
  • Reject

The Editor-in-Chief has final responsibility for all editorial decisions.
